Al Wathba Fossil Dunes
This place is truly fascinating and unique. Although it’s an offbeat location and might seem less exciting to some, it’s perfect for those seeking a peaceful experience. If you want to spend your final hours in the desert watching the sunset and enjoying some drinks, this is the spot for you.
Al Wathba Fossil Dunes is a desert area in Abu Dhabi known for its ancient fossil dunes, which are approximately 4 million years old—how amazing is that? Located about 45 kilometers southeast of Abu Dhabi city, near the town of Al Wathba, these dunes offer a rare and stunning natural wonder.
Fossil Dunes are considered to be natural from the millions years and you will find it really surprising when you’ll be here. Al Wathba dunes is the free to visit and there is no entry fee or any other charges just you have to pay for the cab or car, you’re taking for there

- To make the most of your visit, try to go either before sunrise, around sunset, or at night. This way, you’ll enjoy the best lighting and ambiance, including the illumination from nearby cafes. Avoid visiting during the daytime or noon.
- Wear light, comfortable clothing and choose footwear that’s easy to walk in on sand, such as sandals or sturdy shoes.
- While the area is generally safe, it’s a good idea to bring a GPS navigation device. Signal reception can be spotty, and having GPS will help you navigate more easily.
