The fastest and most convenient way to reach Kashmir is by air. The main airport in Kashmir is Sheikh Ul-Alam International Airport (Srinagar Airport), which is well-connected to major cities in India.
Flights: Regular flights operate from Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh, and other major cities. Airlines like Air India, IndiGo, Vistara provides frequent services to Srinagar
From the Airport: The airport is located about 12 kilometers from Srinagar city center. You can hire a taxi or use pre-paid taxi services to reach your hotel or desired destination in Srinagar.
By Rail:
Though Kashmir itself doesn’t have a direct rail connection, you can travel by train to Jammu Tawi, the nearest major railway station. From there, you can continue your journey to Kashmir by road.
Trains to Jammu Tawi: Jammu Tawi is well-connected with major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai. Some popular trains include the Jammu Rajdhani Express, Jammu Tawi Express, and Himgiri Express.
From Jammu Tawi to Kashmir: After reaching Jammu Tawi, you can hire a taxi or take a bus to Srinagar. The road journey takes approximately 8-10 hours, covering a distance of around 270 kilometers. The route passes through picturesque landscapes and the famous Jawahar Tunnel.
By Road:
I am not sure how many of you love long road trips and have ever planned to go Kashmir by road, but trust me if you ever plan to travel by road, you won’t regret the decision. Traveling to Kashmir by road in summer, offers a unique experience, allowing you to enjoy the stunning vistas along the way. There are several options for road travel:
Private Car: If you prefer a comfortable and flexible journey, you can hire a private car or drive your own vehicle. The road from Jammu to Srinagar is well-maintained and scenic, passing through quaint towns and lush valleys.
Buses: Government and private buses operate regular services from Jammu to Srinagar. The Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) offers both standard and deluxe buses for this route. The journey takes around 8-10 hours. If your citi does not have direct bus services to Srinagar then you can travel to the Delhi and you will have so many options from there.
Shared Taxis: Shared taxis are another popular option for traveling from Jammu to Srinagar. They are available at Jammu Tawi railway station and Jammu bus stand. This option is economical and relatively fast.
